Official Statement from Banka Kombëtare Tregtare
Recently, a news portal published a misleading and biased article, that was subsequently shared by some other portals and social media accounts. This article mentioned publicly known names who are under investigation by law enforcement authorities, linking them to unverified allegations, and speculative claims about non existing investigations concerning BKT, in an apparent attempt to construct a fabricated narrative with the sole purpose of unjustly implicating BKT.
We categorically state that this article is entirely false and deliberately misleading and appear to be part of a targeted effort to damage the reputation of BKT, one of the most reputable financial institutions in Albania, operating under the supervision of the respective regulatory authorities with consistently positive evaluations as one of the best banks in Albania.
There is no investigation or legal proceeding, against BKT and the bank has not been contacted by any authority in relation to the allegations mentioned in these portals.
Such publications have occurred from time to time, and we have taken legal actions to protect the interests of the bank, its management and its stakeholders against reputational damage caused by these fabricated articles.
We are fully confident in our integrity; in the way we operate and in full compliance will all applicable laws and regulations and we remain open to any investigation by the relevant law enforcement and supervisory authorities.
Due to personal data protection laws, the bank is limited in its ability to respond in detail to each element mentioned in these publications. Nevertheless, we reaffirm our full willingness to cooperate with any investigation or legal authority, should such cooperation be requested.
We have faith in the justice system to uphold the rights of the institutions and their management against these malicious attacks and false articles, which aim to damage reputations and undermine public trust in banking institutions through misinformation, posing a risk to the financial stability of the country. Such actions are punishable by law in many other jurisdictions.
